Does Money Manipulate Design?

One of 30 ‘young design studios’ featured in issue 14 of GRAPHIC, as part of the profile, each studio was asked to conceive of and design a page that represented the studio’s ‘motto’.
Initally I was interested in writing something new, a credo of sorts, but I took a different approach when I came across the document Does Money Manipulate Art? at the exhitbition 1969 at P.S.1, written by the Art Worker’s Coalition in repsonse to increasingly irreconcilable views between artists and museums on the purpose and accessibility of art.
Struck by how resonant and challenging the text’s questions were still today, and wondering, with the increasing interchange (conflation?) between the disciplines of art and design, to what extent these same questions might be directed towards designers, I adapted the original text, replacing each instance of the word artist with the word designer, and making other amendements where needed for the sake of coherence. The result seems alternately evident, comic, absurd, probing, and thought-provoking.
